From 1979 to 1982, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf consisted only of a 1/2 oz coin. Fractional weights were initially introduced in November 1982 following an increase in the gold content of the coins.

2019 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins in this listing come to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins arrive inside of individual protective packaging, mint tubes of 10 coins, or Monster Boxes of 500 coins. The boxes contain 50 tubes of 10 coins each.

As of 2015, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin features enhanced security elements in the design of the coins. The 2013 issue was the debut of the laser-engraved maple leaf privy that contains a microscopic year of issue within its designs. 2015 marked the introduction of the radial lines to both sides of the coin.

The obverse of 2019 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Introduced in 2003, this design from Susanna Blunt is just the second of a monarch completed by a Canadian artist and the first since Elizabeth IIs father to depict the monarch without a crown.

On the reverse of 2019 Canadian Gold Maple Leafs is the image of the sugar maple leaf. Based upon the original 1979 from Walter Ott, this image beautifully captures the natural details of the national symbol of Canada. Engravings on this face include the nation of issue, purity, weight, and metal content of the coin.

The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 with a single coining facility in the federal capital of Ottawa. In 1976, a second facility was completed in Winnipeg to expand the capacity of the Royal Canadian Mint.

The reverse of the coin states CANADA in large, spaced letters, with the 9999 purity rating appearing either side of the Maple leaf – Canada’s national symbol. Below the leaf, the coin reads FINE GOLD 1/2 OZ OR PUR – Or Pur being the French for Fine Gold. A smaller Maple leaf appears just below the main leaf, which is a security detailing from the Canadian Mint to deter forgeries.

The obverse side bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as created by Susanna Blunt. This side of the coin states the Queen’s name at the top and 50 Dollars 2019 at the bottom. Both sides of the coin feature a special light diffracting pattern, which like the small Maple leaf is another security measure to deter duplication.
